Kloss, Smith earn Outstanding Player Honors at 90th East-West Shrine Game

(ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.) In a defensive effort that made Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Singletary proud, his East squad held the West all-stars to just three points while scraping together 19 points.

Marvin Kloss, kicker from the University of South Florida, earned The William H. Coffman Award for Most Outstanding Offensive Player for his 13-point performance that included four field goals from 19, 30, 39 and 47 yards.  He added an extra point with just 27 seconds left in the after the game’s only touchdown.

The E. Jack Spaulding Award for Most Outstanding Defensive Player went to Kentucy defensive lineman Za’Darius Smith who had a sack, a QB hurry and an afternoon of creating mayhem in the middle of a defense that disrupted the West all-stars at every turn.

E. Jack Spaulding was a captain in the U.S. Navy and was one of the organizers of the first East-West Shrine Game. William H. Coffman was the managing director of the East-West Shrine Game for 40 years.
